de la rando

there are bruises all over my body
blisters beg for bandages to soothe the pain
just one more day of fighting
to stay above the current of life

my knees anxiously knock together
gaps in more places than one
we aren’t wasting away, just getting better
in the psychiatric ward of life

I sip your words until they stick
just as bitter as root beer tastes
to one who has abstained from sugary drinks for years
the sweetness fails to translate

your words are a life ring you throw out to me
and I cling endlessly with no alternative
the sharks circle somewhere under the water

don’t look down, you might see hell
don’t look up, you might see infinity
and that’s just as scary as hell
