la kabano

My limbs are red hot and itching
Flung into the middle of the wilderness
Without warning covered in bugs and sweat and tears
Waiting for Monday to come

I don’t know what I am doing here
There are more important things to be accomplished
Than sitting and being sorry for myself
In my room at midnight

Countless trees and mountains passed by my window
On the way to this place
With a dog curled up at my feet
And a pounding in my ears

The loop no longer feels like home
It feels hostile, like a friend went away
To camp and came back edgy
Killing mosquitos with impunity
